Artist's Statement:

Randall Speller was born in Toronto where he continues to reside.  A retired art librarian, he now has the time to devote to painting, an activity that has fascinated him for more than 30 years.

Randall Speller’s paintings focus largely on Victoria County and the area surrounding Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls.  They are but one part of his longstanding interest in representing an area of Ontario that his family has had connections to since the 1860s.  Although the area is famous for its lakes, canals, locks and cottages, he has learned to love the hardscrabble farms and fields that most tourists turn their backs on, or drive quickly by on their way to somewhere else. Capturing the essential qualities of this landscape has engaged him for more than 30 years.  His subjects are the constructed elements of landscape and buildings that are shaped by people, by weather, by light and by time.
